How Should A Cowboy Hat Fit. What if its too big?

Cowboy hats should feel snug, but not tight and not move around on your head. Put your first two fingers together like a salute and place them on your browbone. Do the same at the top of your ear. Your hat should sit about 1-2 fingers above your eyebrow and 1-2 fingers above your ear. We use a strong sweatband so our hats fit really well, but If it drops down over your ears or wobbles around that means it's too big. You can make it sit higher by following these instructions to tighten your hat. If you aren't sure, snap a selfie and text it to 407-616-4981. We can help.

Here's our best-kept secret:

You can make your cowboy hat fit tighter with sizing tape.

Use sizing tape to tighten your cowboy hat             Put sizing tape under the sweatband

(shhh...don't tell anyone that sizing tape is weather stripping. You can buy it at Home Depot or Lowes. The 3/4 inch width works best.)

Start by cutting a piece of weather stripping about 4 inches long. Put it under the sweat band, starting in the back, keeping the sticky side facing the hat and the paper facing the sweatband. Try it on. Keep adding 2-3 inch pieces of tape until the hat feels tight enough. Once you like the fit, press down, sticking the sizing tape to the hat. We recommend leaving the paper strip attached. It will keep the sizing tape from getting compressed and the fit will last longer.

It's comfortable and invisible.

If the hat fits snugly and doesn't move around on your head, it fits right. If it is a little too tight, pull a piece of sizing tape back out.

OR IF THE HAT IS TOO TIGHT TO START OUT and the sweatband is elastic, you can slit the seam of the sweatband, which will relax the fit and give you about an extra inch or one size. You can make several small slits in the elastic if you need to. The idea is to flatten the elastic.
